山の辺の道の禅の寺 Mt.Miwa Byoudouji Temple
Buddhism had been protected by Japanese Imperial Family in Nara Era and then the thought that the original Buddha appeared in God’s form was born in Japan. From there, temples were established in many influential shrines all over Japan. As Omiwa Shrine’s temple, Byoudouji temple flourished during the Medieval Period until the early modern times. Although it lost complete power due to the oppression on Buddhism during the Meiji Period, the Main Hall was reconstructed thanks to the effort of the present priest and gained the title of “Mt. Miwa Byoudouji Temple”.
